Robert Sedláček

Robert Sedláček studied at the Department of Documentary Film at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU). He made dozens of documentary films. In his work, he made perfect use of his previous experience as television reporter as well as of his ability of field work. There are but a few to boast of getting close to politician Miloš Zeman – a man who considers all journalists uneducated scum. Similarly, Sedláček has shown his professional approach when working on the documentary about František Čuba, who stood at the birth of the one-time communist “miracle“, the Slušovice cooperative. He dealt with the modern history of the Czech state in his feature-length documentary trilogy Once Upon a Time/Tenkrát (1999 – 2002). His feature debut Rules of Lies/Pravidla lži (2006) was awarded, among others, the Czech Critics Award and the Czech Lion Award 2006 for the best script. His second feature film Men in the Rut/Muži v říji was premiered in 2009. He is a part-owner of the production company Produkce Martin Procházka, realizing not only Sedláček’s projects but also films by director Karel Vachek.
