Sylvie Ballyot

Sylvie Ballyot graduated from the Femis school of image and sound in 1994 with an editing degree. She’s worked on numerous feature films as assistant editor and then co-directed four short films with Béatrice Kordon between 1997 and 2001. As an editor she cooperated with famous French director François Ozon. She directed her first medium-length film, Alice in 2002, acclaimed in numerous festivals. Her fiction film Tel père telle fille, addresses the complexe issue of father-daughter relations, as well as questions of desire, identity and family relations. Her latest documentary, Love and words, was shot in Yemen. While filming in Yemen, Sylvie Ballyot had her tapes seized by authorities and lost the key subject of her feminist documentary. Adrift in an unknown country she decides to continue with the project, filming herself in public places, the only woman in a sea of men. Unused to keeping herself and her sexuality hidden, her responses to an unfamiliar culture are interspersed with interviews with students, who give their opinions on love, family and sexuality. She is currently writing her first feature film, Eden.
