My Street Films

My Street Films. Your Street, Your Film!

My Street Films was born in 2014 as a project of the online documentary portal DAFilms.com. The pilot edition focused on the streets of Prague whose stories and atmosphere were captured by dozens of submitted films that gave rise to the online film map of the city. In the next editions, My Street Films expanded outside the borders of Prague to discover life in the streets of other Czech, Slovak, Polish and Hungarian cities. The project has thus become a place of the encounter and comparison of Czech and other Central European cities and their citizens.

The project’s collaborators include leading Czech documentary filmmakers who contribute to the film map by their films and participate in the making of short films based on submitted film ideas in the role of tutors. They also prepare educational workshops for high school students who learn the basics of the art of film while shooting their own films. The students broaden their awareness of various film genres, try to make their own films and promote them online. They also learn to interpret films and differentiate e.g. between propaganda and manipulation compared to pure information.

The project’s staple is the final competition for the best My Street Film whose makers get a chance to present their film at international film festivals. Complete information about the project, the film idea competition and short film competition deadlines as well as the series of related events is available at MyStreetFilms.cz.
